The Curate will have the opportunity to serve in two distinct congregations under the Erie Episcopal umbrella, gaining experience across a wide range of ministry areas. A particular emphasis of the role is outreach, for which the Curate will hold significant responsibility.

As part of their time with Erie Episcopal, the Curate will participate in regular management, supervision, and mentoring conversations with the Dean and Executive Director, providing support for both professional development and vocational discernment. formation and personal development.

Position Responsibilities
• Serve regularly as a sacramental presence on Sundays at St. Mark’s and, on occasion, at the Cathedral.
This includes serving as the primary celebrant at St. Mark’s, preaching in rotation with others, and collaborating closely with the Executive Director in worship planning and leadership.
• Preside in rotation at midweek services, particularly at the Cathedral, and at Sunday afternoon services at Brevillier Village, a nonprofit nursing care facility and ministry partner of the Episcopal Church.
• Assist in providing pastoral care across both congregations in collaboration with the Dean, Executive Director, and lay Pastoral Care Team. The Curate serves as staff liaison to the Pastoral Care Team.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director, Dean, and lay outreach committees to strengthen existing partnerships with community organizations and cultivate new opportunities for engagement and service throughout the city.
• Work with program staff to support ministries for children, youth, and LGBTQ+ communities, as well as related worship services. Responsibilities may include teaching Children’s Chapel on a rotating basis and participating in youth group programming.
• Partner with Erie Episcopal staff to plan and lead adult formation opportunities.
• Provide support, alongside other staff members, for the ministries and programs of both congregations.
• Undertake additional duties and ministry responsibilities as assigned by the Dean, including diocesan responsibilities as time and circumstances permit.

Position Requirements
• Have attained a Master of Divinity degree and be ordained to the Episcopal priesthood or be on the path to ordination
• Thoughtful both theologically and liturgically; able to work with people of differing perspectives and find common ground
• Gifted in developing pastoral relationships
• Strong preaching and liturgical skills
• Keen evangelist with a desire to be present in the community developing relationships
• Ability to write and communicate well
• Creativity and flexibility in how church is conceived; a willingness to adapt when necessary
• Have experience working as part of a team, but are comfortable working independently also
• Willingness to learn and be open to learning from others
• Has a spiritual director and regular spiritual practices
• Willing to work a variable schedule that includes Sunday mornings and some evenings
• Weekly or biweekly meetings with the Executive Director and Dean, as well as set goals and engage in performance reviews annually with the Dean
