About Emmanuel
In 1852 a group of parishioners at Christ Church (closed in 1986) decided that a new parish was needed to serve the growing Mt. Vernon neighborhood and in 1854 the first service was held at Emmanuel, in a newly constructed stone church at the corner of Cathedral and W. Read Streets. In the 150+ years since then Emmanuel has been a continuous beacon of love, justice, beauty, and hope for the city. Known for its vibrant worship and outstanding choir and concert series,
Emmanuel is an open and affirming congregation, welcoming all people to worship, events, service, and learning opportunities.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church is an equal-opportunity employer and actively supports, affirms, and welcomes all people.
